Divine Love Poetry

"God should be worshipped by becoming God."
Shri Sadguru Siddharameshwar Maharaj

✷

“It is when you have tried and failed that you are truly able to surrender. Though you fail time and again, you continue to try until, finally, there comes a point when you accept your failure; you fully experience and understand your incapacity to move forward. It is at that point that you surrender. So keep trying. That ultimate sense of failure must come to everyone, either today or tomorrow.
AMMA

Carrying God

No one can keep us from carrying God
Wherever we go.

No one can rob His Name
From our heart as we try to relinquish our fears
And at last stand - Victorious.

We do not have to leave him in the mosque
Or church alone at night;

We do not have to be jealous of tales of saints
Or glorious masts, those intoxicated souls
Who can make outrageous love with the Friend.

We do not have to be envious of our spirit's ability
Which can sometimes touch God in a dream.

Our yearning eyes, our warm-needing bodies,
Can all be drenched in contentment
And Light.

No one anywhere can keep us
From carrying the Beloved wherever we go.

No one can rob His precious Name
From the rhythm of my heart -
Steps and breath.

Hafiz

One who does what the Friend wants done
will never need a friend.
There is a bankruptcy that is pure gain.
The moon stays bright
when it does not avoid the night.
A rose’s rarest essence
lives in the thorn.
Rumi

Keep living in a way so that you catch the eye of the sages.

I Follow Barefoot

I long for You so much
I follow barefoot Your frozen tracks

That are high in the mountains
That I know are years old.

I long for You so much
I have even begun to travel
Where I have never been before.

Hafiz, there is no one in this world
Who is not looking for God.

Everyone is trudging along
With as much dignity, courage
And style

As they possibly
Can.

Hafiz

In the beginning, the Guru will tell the disciple:
"The world is an illusion. Reject it and become established in the Self."
This is to speed up the sadhana.
But at last, when the disciple reaches Realization, he will understand that this whole world is part of God.
Then there will be nothing to reject.
The world will be there for him to love and serve.
Amma

God is in all men
But all men are not  in God
That is why we suffer.
Sri Ramakrishna

Very little grows on jagged rock. Be grounded.
Be crumbled so wildflowers will come up where you are.
Rumi

✷

If you are running away in hope of some relief,
in that direction, too, a calamity comes to meet you.
No corner is without wild beasts;
There is no rest but in the place where you are alone with God.
Rumi

Oh lord , if i worship you out of the fear of hell, cast me into hell.
If i worship you for the desire of paradise, please deny me paradise.
But if i worship you for yourself alone, please grant me the beauty of your face.
Rabya

In the game of chess
With the Lord
Pray to loose!
So, practice
With anyone.
We never know
Under what guise
He comes!
Hafiz

✷

The divine and the world are not two things.
The divine that comes within the grasp of our sense organs we call the “world”, and the divine that doesn’t come within the grasp of the sense organs we call the “divine”.
Osho

When i don’t know who i am, I serve you. When I know who i am, I am you
Ramayana Hanuman

Learn to live in such a way that those who know you, but don't know God, will come to know God because they know you.

Would you become a pilgrim on the road of love?
The first condition is that you make yourself humble as dust and ashes.
Rumi

✷

I looked in temples, churches and mosques, but I found the divine within my heart.
Rumi

I didn't come here of my own accord, and I can't leave that way.
Whoever brought me here will have to take me home.

A Divine Invitation

You have been invited to meet
The Friend.
No one can resist a Divine Invitation.
That narrows down all our choices
To just two:
We can come to God
Dressed for Dancing,
Or,
Be carried on a stretcher
To God’s Ward.
Hafiz

✷

The heart is right to cry
Even when the smallest drop of light,
Of Love,
Is taken away.
Perhaps you may kick, moan, scream
In a dignified
Silence,
But you are so right
To do so in any fashion
Until God returns
To
You.
Hafiz

Nothing I say can explain to you Divine Love,
yet all of creation cannot seem to stop talking about it.
Rumi

✷

"Bhakti, love of God, is the only essential thing. One kind of bhakti has a motive behind it. Again, there is a motiveless love, pure devotion, a love of God that seeks no return. In this love there is no desire; it is nothing but pure love of the Lotus Feet of God."
"There is another kind of love, known as 'urjhita bhakti', an ecstatic love of God that overflows, as it were. When it is awakened, the devotee 'laughs and weeps and dances and sings.' Chaitanya deva is an example of this love. Rama said to Lakshmana, 'Brother, if anywhere you see the manifestation of 'urjhita bhakti', know for certain that I am there."
Sri Ramakrishna

What you seek is seeking you.

Every moment of our lives
Untill

Hafiz

Absolutely Clear

Don't surrender your loneliness
So quickly.
Let it cut more deep.
Let it ferment and season you
As few human
Or even divine ingredients can.
Something missing in my heart tonight
Has made my eyes so soft,
My voice
So tender,
My need of God
Absolutely
Clear.

The Suburbs

Complaint
Is only possible
While living in the suburbs
Of God
Hafiz

You are Water and we are the thirsty plants.
You are the King and we are the beggars at the gate.
You are the Speaker and we are Your voice.
How could we not answer Your call.
Rumi

The feather flew,
not because of anything in itself
but because the air bore it along.
Thus am I, a feather on the breath of God.
Hildegard of Bingen

God blooms from the shoulder of the elephant,

Wherever water flows, life flourishes:
wherever tears fall,
Divine mercy is shown.
Rumi

✷
To climb the ladder of divine experience,
first you must subdue the animal tendencies.
Then you will become fully human.
The human within you will pull the divine towards you.
Then you will not need to run after divinity.
Unfoldment of the divinity within you will lead to contentment.
Swami Rama

The grace of God is always pouring in, but generally people have holes in their heads.
Sealing the hole caused by fear, doubt, hatred, anger , jealousy, greed, desire and attachment
is an integral part of spiritual practice.
Swami Rama

✷

Self realization is a matter of revelation, that comes through God’s grace.
However relying on God’s grace and abandoning Self effort , especially in the early stages of sadhana is a big mistake.
God’s grace is like a gentle rain that falls over a vast area without any regard for the particular spot that will benefit it.
It rains on the the unjust and the just alike.
nd even after it rains, the land that does not have good soil or soil that can hold te water, will remain barren.
Only when we are fully prepared can we receive, assimilate and benefit from divine grace.
Swami Rama

✷

Divine grace often dawns in the heart in a mysterious way.
When it happens we are awestruck, we are pulled into a state of wonder.
Freedom from fear and doubt is the surest sign that we have received the grace of the divine.
Swami Rama

Don't seek,
don't search,
don't ask,
don't knock,
don't demand -
relax.
If you relax, it comes.
If you relax, it is there.
If you relax,
you start vibrating with it.
Osho

First you have to do all that you can do,
and then you have to learn non-doing.

The doing of the non-doing is the greatest doing,

and the effort of effortlessness is the greatest effort.

But where is this gathering?
I don't know, my little angel
But do the others know?
No, they don't know either
How can you go to a gathering
without knowing where it is?
It suffices to walk, just walk.
Those who are invited will find the way

Although I may try to describe Love,
When I experience it, I am speechless.

Mohammedan prayers
“Our divine source, our God, do not be harsh upon us if we forget or make mistakes,
Our divine source, do not carry grudges of revenge upon us as you have done and devastated nations before us.
Our divine belovedness or divine source do not burden us,
do not let us carry a load that we don’t have the energy for.
Have mercy upon us, forgive us, forgive our sins, have mercy upon us.
Bathe us in divine compassion.”

This constant yearning

We are like lutes once held by God.
Being away from His warm body,
Fully explains this constant yearning.
Hafiz

✷

We should make all spiritual talk simple today.
God is trying to sell you something,
But you don't want to buy.
That is what your suffering is:
Your fantastic haggling,
Your manic screaming over the price!
Hafiz

Love drives you mad
from revelation to revelation
through ordeal after ordeal
until humble and broken
you are carried tenderly
into the heart of the Rose
Rumi

✷

I sat long enough in the fire.
Now I am up to my neck in the water of union.
You say: Up to the neck is not enough.
Make your head your foot and descend into love.
There is no up to the neck union.
I say: But for the sake of your garden I sat up to my neck in blood.
You say:  Yes you escaped the alluring world , but not yourself.
You are the magician caught in his own trickery.
Cut the breath of self and be silent.
Language cannot come   from your throat as you choke and go under.
Rumi

✷

If you make love with the divine now, in the next life
you will have the face of satisfied desire.
Kabir

✷

Give up to grace.

The ocean takes care of each
wave 'til it gets to shore.

You need more help than you know.
Rumi

✷

When the world pushes you to your knees,
you are in the perfect position to pray.
Rumi

✷

When you help, you see life as weak.

When you fix, you see life as broken.

When you serve, you see life as whole.

Fixing and helping may be the work of the ego, and service the work of the soul.

Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.

✷

When the soul first put on the body’s shirt,
the ocean lifted up all its gifts and that union took place
When love first tasted the lips of human beings it started singing
when the divine united with the flesh.
You are in my eyes, how else could I see light
You are in my brain, this wild joy
If love did not live in matter,
how would any place have any hold on anyone.
Rumi

I can be without anyone
but not without You.
Rumi

Like a  pair of mismatched newlyweds,
One of them whom still feels very insecure,
I keep turning to God, saying:
“Kiss me”
Hafiz

Be silent,
Only the Hand of God Can remove
The burdens of your heart.
Rumi

Whenever you are alone, remind yourself that God has sent everybody else away so that there is only you and Him.
Rumi

Why is the sea king of a hundred streams?
Because it lies below them.
Lao Tsu

✷

Pray to be humble
So that God does not have to appear to be so stingy.
Oh, pray to be honest, strong and kind and pure.
So that the Beloved is never miscast as a cruel great miser.
I know you have a hundred complex cases against God in court,
But never mind, wayfarer,
Let us just get out of this mess
And pray to be loving and humble
So that the Friend will be forced to reveal Himself
So near!!
Hafiz

✷

Nothing should stand between yourself and God.
Not imims, priests, rabbis, or any other custodians of moral or religious leadership.
Not spiritual masters, not even your faith. Believe in your values and your rules, but never lord them over others.
If you keep breaking other people’s hearts, whatever religious duty you perform is no good.

Stay away from all sorts of idolatry, for they will blur your vision.
Let God and only God be your guide.
Learn the Truth, my friend, but be careful not to make a fetish out of your truths.
Rumi

Our God, our divine source, open up my chest, expand my chest,
make easy my path as I journey in life and untie a knot in my tongue that I can speak the truth.
Both Prayers from the Christ

I have learnt so much from God,
that I can no longer call myself a Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Jew.
The truth has shared so much of itself with me
that I can no longer call myself a man, a woman, an angel or even a pure soul.
Love has befriended Hafiz so completely,
it has turned to ash and freed me of every concept and image my mind has ever known.
Hafiz

✷

Rejuvenate the heart, rejoice the heart hour after hour because if the heart gets tired it becomes blind.
If it becomes blind meaning is lost.
Mohammed

✷

You must work, but let God work through you; this is the best part of devotion. If you are constantly thinking that He is walking through your feet, working through your hands, accomplishing through your will, you will know Him.
Paramahansa Yogananda

Rabya
Was seen in the market with a flaming torch in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. Everyone thought her to be mad.
When asked she said: I want to drown your hell and put your heaven on fire.

✷

"O God! If I worship You for fear of Hell, burn me in Hell,
and if I worship You in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise.
But if I worship You for Your Own sake,
Grand me Your everlasting Beauty.”
Rabya

I am your defiant servant, where is your forgiveness and satisfaction with me?
Darkness has filled my heart, Where is your light?
If you give us paradise by us obeying you, this is selling and buying.
where is your giving?
Omar Kayam

Man's desire is to jump out of the world,
and God's desire is to plunge into the world
Man's desire is to be God,
and God's desire is to be man.
Osho

I tried to find Him on the Christian cross, but He was not there;
I went to the temple of the Hindus and to the old pagodas,
but I could not find a trace of Him anywhere…
I searced on the mountains and in the valleys
but neither in the heights nor in the depthswas I able to find Him.
I went to the Ka’bah in Mecca, but He was not there either…
I questioned the scholars and philosophers but He was beyond their understanding…
Then I looked into my heart and it was there
where He dwelled that I saw Him,
He was nowhere else to be found.
Rumi

✷

My worst habit is I get so tired of winter
I become a torture to those I'm with.
If you're not here, nothing grows.
I lack clarity. My words
tangle and knot up.
Rumi

✷

How to cure bad water? Send it back to the river.
How to cure bad habits? Send me back to you.
When water gets caught in habitual whirlpool it digs a way out through the bottom
to the ocean. There is a secret medicine
given only to those who hurt so hard
they can't hope.
Rumi

✷

Asleep or awake, writing or
reading, whatever you do,
you must never be without
the remembrance of God.
Rumi

✷

There is a path from me to you
that I am constantly looking for,
so I try to keep clear and still
as water does with the moon.
Rumi

✷

Lead me from dreaming to waking.
Lead me from opacity to clarity.
Lead me from the complicated to the simple.
Lead me from the obscure to the obvious.
Lead me from intention to attention.
Lead me from what I'm told I am to what I see I am.
Lead me from confrontation to wide openness.
Lead me to the place I never left,
Where there is peace, and peace

Listen to the reed,
it is complaining.
It tells of separation saying:
"Ever since they tore me from the reed bed
my lament has moved men and women to tears.
Everyone who is lifted from his source
wishes back to the time of union".

Rumi

✷

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
Prayer of St Francis

Be silent,

Learn the Alchemy true human beings know
The moment you accept the troubles
you’ve been given, the door will open.
Welcome difficulty, as a familiar comrade.
Joke with torment brought by the Friend.
Sorrows are the rags of old clothes
and jackets that serve to cover,
and then are taken off.
That undressing
and the naked body underneath,
Is the sweetness that comes after grief.
Rumi
